The platform on which Djoser’s sarcophagus was placed. The sarcophagus was destroyed when the limestone casing of the central shaft caved in during an earth quake about 500BC. The rubble in the tomb was only recently cleared. Djoser’s mummy had been stolen by grave robbers. All that remained of him was one of his feet.
